| The Delahaye type 145 two seater was a hybrid car built for both sports and GP racing (see also GP004). Work was concentrated on the new V12 engine while the chassis retained much from the type 135. A totally new body was made for the car. With its blunt nose and streamlined shape it created quite a sensation when it was shown for the first time at the Montlhéry track on 25th June 1937. René Dreyfus later admitted that it was the most awful-looking car he had ever seen. The car was in fact very low and seen from the side it had a highly aerodynamic shape. The sports car mudguards had been set high over the rest of the car so that they should not disturb the air flow but it made the sports variant to some look even uglier. Not to us here at TRRC however with its unusual looks we think this makes a truly stunning slot car in 1/32 and will add a certain French flair to any collection. | Shown here with GP004 - There are various differences between the stripped down Grand Prix version and the Sports Car version - most notably the addition of mud guards, there is also a different front grille, headlight openings, additional spot lights and rear view mirror cowling. |
