| For 1939 the Auto Union team continued to develop their D-type, adding two stage supercharging for better performance. At the end of the season the rear engine Auto Union cars probably held an edge in road holding over any other car in the world at that time. Tazio Nuvolari continued as team leader with Hans Stuck, Rudolf Hasse and Hermann Müller as the other drivers. Motorcycle driver Georg "Schorsch" Meier was added to the team as junior driver with Ulrich Bigalke functioning as reserve. The picture to the left shows Nuvolari battling it out in the German Grand Prix of 1939, unfortunately after leading for 5 laps went out of the race with a blown engine. GP005 is our slot car interpretation of the last Auto Union to ever grace the track. It combines the detail of the popular injection moulded static kit into a resin body suitable for slot car racing.
